Friday, December 7 – Holiday season kick-off weekend in High River
The annual Light Up George Lane Park event will begin at 5 p.m. on Friday, December 7 prior to the parade, at the entrance to George Lane Park (343 Macleod Trail SW).
There will be hot dogs and hot chocolate available and plenty of fire pits placed in the downtown area so that everyone can stay toasty!
After the Light Up event, the 32nd Annual High River Santa Claus Parade will begin at 6:30 p.m. in downtown High River.
The theme of this year’s parade is “Christmas in the Foothills” and the parade planning committee is excited to report that more than 45 floats are currently registered!
Parade registration is still open and the entry form is available at christmasinhighriver.com.
Before and after the parade, there will be a full evening of activities planned, residents and visitors are encouraged to come early and stay to take in all the sights.
Photos with Santa at the Museum of the Highwood will begin on December 7 following the parade, bring the kids and your camera for pictures with Santa at the Museum (406 1 Street S.W.) Santa will also be available for photos at the Museum every Saturday and Sunday from December 8 to 23 from 1 – 3 p.m.
Foothills SNAPS will also host their annual Winter Market at the Highwood (Memorial)Centre on December 7 from noon to 9 p.m. and on December 8 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Light Up Our High River
Our High River will coordinate this year’s community-wide Christmas lights contest with a group of dedicated community volunteers. Residents and businesses can register for free on the christmasinhighriver.com website until December 6. Public voting on the best Christmas light displays in each category will run Dec. 7-20.
Santa Claus Skate
Anyone that wants to start celebrating the holidays a little earlier can bring their family for an evening of fun at the Bob Snodgrass Recreation Complex on December 3 from 5 p.m. – 8 p.m.
Warm up with some hot chocolate from the Oddfellows, have a hot dog served by the Rotary Club, a cookie from Kinsman, and a professional photo taken with Santa (by donation) in support of the Foothills Advocacy in Motion Society and Canadian Tire Jumpstart!
