Permit & Inspection Process

Building permit information and application

Building permits deal with the structural stability of buildings and the health and safety of the building's occupants. 

Building permits are required for:

  • construction of a new building
  • installation of a solid fuel applicance (i.e. wood stove or wood fireplace)
  • installation of a swimming pool or hot tub
  • wheelchair ramps
  • decks or porches
  • change in occupancy of any building (i.e. from retail to office, or office to restaurant, etc.)
  • addition to any building
  • alteration to any building
  • demolition of any building
  • relocation of any building
  • reconstruction of any building that has been damages by fire, earthquake or other cause (i.e. flood, tornado, etc.)
  • correction of an unsafe condition in any building

 Building Permits are NOT required for:

  • fence
  • residential accessory building not greater than 100 sq ft in building area that does not create a hazaard.  Please contact Building Services for clarification.
