Market Value Assessment
Property Assessment is the process of estimating the value of a property for Municipal and education taxation purposes. Market value is defined as the price a property might reasonably sell for after adequate time and exposure in an open market when sold by a willing seller to a willing buyer.
A property's assessment does not in itself generate property taxes as it is the assessed value multiplied by the tax rate (mill rate) that gives the property tax levy that the homeowner pays. For more information on the Town of High River's current tax rate please click here.
The Town of High River bases the current year's property assessment on the real estate market condition as of the July 1 of the previous year. The assessment also takes into consideration the characteristics such as size, type and age of your property as well as its location, style, condition, upgrades and lot size. The selling process of similar properties in the community are also considered.

The Assessment Review Period is your opportunity to review your assessment, receive more information about your assessment and if necessary discuss your assessment with us. If you have questions, think your assessment may be wrong. the data is incorrect and/or are unable to attend any of the open houses please contact the Town of High River Assessment Department at; by phone at 403.603-3430, by fax at (403) 652-2396 .
The assessor then may inspect the property and correct the assessment if necessary. If the assessor agrees that the original notice is not accurate, a new notice will be issued.
If you are not satisfied with the outcome of the assessor review you may then appeal the assessment to the Assessment Review Board. Click here for more information on the assessment review board. Please note the deadline for submission of an Assessment Review Board Complaint Form is May 14, 2012.

If you have questions regrading your assessment, plan to attend one of the following open houses being held at the Town Office, 309B Macleod Trail SW, High River:
Thursday - April 19, 2012 from 1:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.
Friday - April 20, 2012 from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
Saturday - April 21, 2012 from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.
