Town's Automated Waste Disposal System

First implemented in April 2009 the second phase of the Town’s Automated Waste Disposal system is scheduled for implementation in October 2009.  Residents will automatically receive the standard 240-litre cart, which will hold up to three bags/containers of garbage.  It is hoped that by the end of 2010 all residential garbage disposal will be automated.

Statutory Holidays:  If your scheduled garbage day falls on a statutory holiday your garbage will be picked up within two (2) business days following the holiday.

Recycling

The recycling depot is located on the west side of the Bob Snodgrass Recreation Complex at 228 - 12 Avenue SE.  Flattening cardboard and cans will reduce sizes and make the recycling system work to its potential.

What we accept:

  • newspaper
  • paper – mixed & standard white
  • milk jugs – washed, with no lids
  • mixed paper
  • magazines
  • tins – clean and crushed
  • cardboard – empty & flattened
  • grass clipping, leaves & garden refuse
  • tree branches

Not for recycling:

  • garbage
  • styrofoam
  • styrofoam egg cartons
  • plastic bags
  • glass
  • coloured plastics of any kind
  • bubble Wrap
  • wood

If the bins are full at the recycling centre, please bring your recyclables back at another time. The Town of High River has specific hours where they can take recyclables to the Okotoks centre, and has limits in amounts taken within time periods. Since Southern Alberta has been known to experience some windy conditions, please keep this in mind. If it's not in a recycling bin, it will probably end up littering the town.

If your business wishes to arrange for one-time or on-going pickup of cardboard or mixed paper, please contact Operational Services at 403.652.4657 or e-mail This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it .
