Visitors to High River wishing to spend a pleasant day in the countryside do not have far to venture. They can visit Sheppard Family Park located one block east of the Bob Snodgrass Recreation Complex on the south side of 12th Avenue southeast.
Sheppard Family Park offers visitors a serene rural picnic sight and the chance to view historic local architecture. This 13 acre former farmstead was willed to the Town of High River in 1995 by Ruth McCoy provided that the property be used as a public park named after her stepfather, Henry Sheppard.
The beautiful treed area contains several historic buildings, including a fully restored log cabin built in 1882. Other buildings include the first home built in High River, the Billy MacDougall house of 1899. The MacDougall house is setup to accommodate small functions and can be rented for small parties.
In 1995, the Munro barn was moved to the park from Mossleigh where it has received some restorations and is now home of the Town’s Visitor Information Centre:
