Town explores interest in community gardens

The Town of High River is surveying residents to explore whether there is sufficient interest in developing additional community gardens within the community. A brief survey has been posted on the Town’s website to determine residents’ interest and to open discussions on what would be required to provide space for the establishment of a communal gardening project.
“Right now, we are just trying to discover if there are enough people who would like access to a garden,” said Angie Lucas, manager of planning for the Town. “If there is sufficient interest then the next step would be to support the formation of a stakeholder group who would spearhead the project.”
There are a few community gardens at Sheppard Family Park, which are currently reserved with a waiting list of individuals who would like to use them. “It was the numbers of individuals who are waiting to use the gardens at Sheppard Family Park that made us think there might be a demand for similar opportunities in other parts of town,” said Kim Unger, the Town’s park design technician.
