Green Tips

Recycle

Recycling is an important  part of everyday life that protects the environment, saves resources and landfill space, and can create jobs.

To make it fun, easy and accessible locate your recycling centre in a convenient location, select seperate containers for the recyclables that are accepted at the depot an incorporate trips to the recycling depot into your weekly routine.

Composting

Composting can reduce your household waste by 40%.  The Town of High River has small back yard composters for sale at the Bob Snodgrass Recreation Complex for $50 or indoor worm composters for sale at the Town Office for $20.

The Recycling Depot accepts yard waste throughout the year

Water Conservation

Conserving water is an important part of any sustainable community.  Check out the Town of High River's "Conserve to Preserve" campaign in partnership with local school children.

Indoor water conservation:

  • Replace shower heads with a water saving model
  • Install low flow or dual flush toilets
  • Install faucet aerators in the kitchen and bathroom
  • Put the plug in leaks
  • Only run washing machines and dishwahers when they are full
  • Soak pans over night, don't run the water

  • Use a rain barrell, capture the water to use later on gardens and lawns

Here are some great tips to help you conserve energy:
